( he doesn't answer. because there's no point, when he's already opened the balcony door and jumped clear of the apartment, heading towards the down. if it was anyone else, he would have bitched and decided, fuck it, he's not going if he doesn't have to.
except it is laura so he goes, even if bitches to himself quietly on the way over.
the down is flooded, but julian doesn't really need to walk through it anyway; instead he hovers a good few inches above water level, green platform under his feet. when he gets into the gym, he--steps down onto the closest tall and dry object he can find, and takes a look around the gym. )
( laura has not stayed dry. there's too much to do in the water, even if none of the equipment is worth salvaging. the place wasn't exactly much before the floodwater, now it just looks miserable. she's found somewhere high enough that she's out of it for a moment, slowly drying off, but laura isn't especially concerned. she's been through the effects of the floodwater, come out the other side. now she's just- tired.
she hears julian come in, but she doesn't react until he says her name, sitting up and carefully not frowning. )
Be careful, there is something in the water. Dragging people down.
( julian doesn't have to go near the water at all if he doesn't want to, but it seems worth mentioning anyway. not least of all because she'd rather claw her own eyes out than have someone else dragged into a watery grave. she should have been here to stop it. )
Yeah, I know. That's why I'm not touching the water.
( but he does move to stand close to laura, careful to avoid getting wet because he knows that this shit has been causing--problems. problems julian isn't interested in, thank you. julian scans the room, green sparks visible in his eyes before he's--raising a hand, using that telekinesis to pick up several items around the gym: gym equipment, chairs, desks, various other shit that's obviously been soaked and probably not salvageable.
shakes it out a bit before they're all--hovering closer to them, as julian makes a wide gesture towards them. )
( laura's own abandoned efforts prior to julian's arrival have mostly consisted of furniture being stuffed on top of lockers, wedged into windowsills, pretty much anywhere out of the flood waters that they can reasonably fit. there isn't really above ground storage in a place like this, and her clean up efforts are clearly not a labour of love.
she should help, probably, but instead laura looks at the equipment with that same neutral expression for a bit longer, and then tips her head. )
The big stuff can go over here.
( 'here' meaning literally just the top of a ratty staircase that appears to go nowhere. )
( so. she doesn't care. this is just busy work to keep them occupied. that's fine. he can deal with that, too. she gestures, and he starts--stacking shit on top of each other on the ratty staircase. piles shit high but manages to keep it from falling, which is a feat all in of itself honestly.
it's not organized. it probably isn't saving much, the damage has been done. but julian does it regardless. it gives his mind something to focus on for two seconds also. which is a decent plus. )
Logan's going to have a hell of a time unstacking this crap later.
( in reality, laura is probably going to have a hell of a time unstacking all that crap later. they need to do more than just move it, the equipment needs to be sorted through, she needs to figure out what is actually salvageable and what needs to be tossed, what will need repairs...
what she needs to do, actually, is stop sitting in this building looking a little like she's had a lobotomy, but that's probably too much to ask of laura right now. )
I found information on deaths here, but none of it said for certain how long someone stays dead.
Sorry. No one I know's died here yet, so I don't know shit about them either.
( which. the no deaths is great, death can get complicated. but he is sorry that he doesn't know, doesn't have anything else to offer laura.
with most the bigger pieces of furniture put aside, julian focuses on shoving the water up and away from the floor in small areas, creates small craters in the water so he can sift through any smaller things that still lingered beneath the surface. it's not super efficient, but he doesn't want to pull it all up and risk soaking the both of them either, so.
( she's, not surprisingly, feelings particularly uncharitable about this little gap in information right now. laura had hunted out a significant amount of information early on, but apparently when it comes to death it could be anywhere from twenty-four hours to a month, and there's no apparent reason why.
laura slides down off of her spot without much warning, landing carefully in one of those craters without much of a splash, so that she can snag what appears to be a laminated sign out from where it had been wedged down against the floor. the stupid closed for business sign that had been slapped up as part of the meeting punishment. not ideal for julian, who now has to either keep pushing all that water away from her, or let it drench laura, but she's clearly not thinking about that. )
He hasn't come back yet. For me, back home. I didn't even know he comes back after my time. He's justโ dead.
( laura moves, and julian's focus immediately shifts on compensating for it. the other craters fill in, as the green telekinetic field moves around laura specifically, keeps the water at bay around where she walks, as she moves. eyes follow her movements to make sure that he doesn't manage to fuck it up and accidentally drench her. )
I didn't know. ( he could have guessed. laura was tense. closed off. it should have been obvious. but julian wasn't--looking for those signs as actively as he should have been. ) Sorry. I should've filled you in a long time ago.
( which is part of the problem, really. she could have talked to any of them. she could have talked to logan, and cleared this up weeks ago, but no answer was better than one she didn't want to hear. she shakes off the sign, dries her palms on her legs and tips her head back. looks up at julian and puts a monumental effort into not sighing heavily.ย
the damage to this place is going to take a long time to repair. there's probably a metaphor in there, but that's not a thread that laura is about to pull. instead she just gestures vaguely up, in julian's general direction. )
( a flick of his hand (for the dramatics, because he's always dramatic) and a set of green stairs appears just in front of laura and the little crater he's been maintaining to keep her dry. it goes up to the top where julian's standing.
he figures it feels a little less awkward to walk up stairs than to temporarily lose body anatomy to a telekinetic field, or something. )
Do you want me to tell you the shit that's been going on back home?
( it's actually slightly amusing, enough that something a little like a smile touches her lips as she climbs the glowing stairs. she comes to stand next to julian, arms folded across her chest, and the amusement drops off her expression pretty quickly.
she nods all the same though, looking down at the water with a grim expression. this place is going to be hard to repair. )
Kurtโ he mentioned some. It sounds...insane. Josh is resurrecting people?
He isn't doing it alone. It's the Five. Foley's just making the bodies.
( which sounds weird as shit honestly but you know what. their world is weird as shit, so it checks out. another wave of his hand, and julian pushes damn near most the water out of the building. it won't help it for long, but he can hold up a barrier around it for a little while. the green spark behind his eyes only grows brighter, stays there for a moment while he does a quick scan of the floor to make sure he isn't missing anything important before he--drops the barrier slowly. lets the water trickle back in.
because letting it all back in at once would cause significant more damage and he doesn't want to piss laura off. )
People die, wherever. Tempus, Proteus, Goldballs, Hope, and Foley work together to bring them back.
( she'd said as much to kurt, when he'd started talking about the five like they were some kind of deity. the tone that julian hears it with is far sharper though, because for all resurrecting all their dead friends sounds like paradiseโ
it's never that easy, and he really made it sound that easy. but to hear it without actually experiencing the process, krakoa, laura just feels skeptical. )
I want to think we can just bring people back, but you have to know how this sounds.
It sounds nuts. Like something out of a comic book that couldn't possibly happen.
( haha. except there's always the fact that, ) But crazy shit happens all the time. We get pulled into pocket dimensions, other dimensions, Hell, everything in between. It sounds fucked up and crazy, but it isn't a lie.
( julian likes this a lot better than he likes all the fucky memories of shit that didn't actually happen. and a lot of memories of things that had happened. )
I believe you guys, it just sounds like there is no catch.
( there's always a catch. that much laura feels sure of. but maybe she's being too skeptical, maybe even with a catch, it's not significant enough that it matters in the face of bringing everyone back. of no longer losing anyone.
maybe laura's just in a shit mood and trying to pick holes in anything presented to her. it's hard to tell. )
